Would a Chatime franchise suit you?
Five questions. No score, no verdict, and nothing submitted. Answer them and this page will tell you plainly what your situation means, including where something is worth sorting out before you go further.
Who this tends to suit, and who it does not
Worth reading both columns. Plenty of people decide against it, and that is a perfectly good outcome.
It tends to suit people who
Can fund the investment without stretching to the last dollar. Are prepared to be in the store in the first year. Like operating inside a system rather than inventing one. Have managed people or stock before, in any industry. Want a business they could eventually run with a manager.
It tends not to suit people who
Need income from month one. Want to change the menu, the pricing or the branding. Are buying mainly as a passive investment. Have not yet had a lender confirm what they can borrow. Are uncomfortable being held to someone else's operating standards.
The honest bit about the first year
A new store is a build, a hire, a launch and a learning curve at once, and the hours are real. An existing store that is already trading starts differently, with a team and a customer base in place. Neither is easier overall. They are demanding in different ways.
Working out if it suits you
Do I need business experience to own a Chatime franchise?
No. Training covers the operating side: 5 days online, then 6 days in-store at a Sydney franchise alongside a current franchise partner. Experience managing people or stock, in any industry, tends to matter more than food and beverage experience specifically.
How much money do I need to start?
Total investment for a new Chatime store starts at $300,000 + GST, covering the franchise fee, fit-out, equipment, training and opening stock. Plan for working capital on top of that. There is no application deposit at any stage.
Do I have to work in the store myself?
Your level of involvement is something Chatime discusses with you during the application. Being in the store yourself reduces the wage cost, since your hours are hours you are not paying someone else for. A store run under management costs more in wages and needs a manager you trust, so build that into your figures early.
Can I be knocked back?
Yes. Franchisors apply selection criteria, and not every application proceeds. That is normal across franchising and it works both ways: the process is also there for you to decide Chatime is not the right fit.
How long does it take from enquiry to opening?
Typically several months to a year. Site availability, lease negotiation and fit-out usually set the pace rather than the application itself.
Is it better to open a new store or buy one already trading?
It depends what you want to be able to check before committing. An existing store has a trading history you can review; a new site does not, but comes with a new fit-out and a lease negotiated for your location. Neither is better in general.
Start a conversation, not an application
An enquiry gets you an information pack and, if you want one, a call. There is no deposit, no obligation, and you can stop at any point.
